The Monastery of Rosenthal

This Monastery was made for the Cistercians and was sanctified the Blessed Virgin Mary.
It was donated in the year 1241 to Earl Eberhard II. von Eberstein, Burgherr zu Stauf, and his wife Adelheid von Sayn.
After the battle by Göllheim King Adolf von Nassau was inhumed here. 1572 the last abbess Elisabeth von Geispitzheim stopped her work here and gave it to Nassau-Saarbrücken. The ruin of the church was bought 1851 by the district covernment of Speyer.

The nuns of monastery said, that the name “Rosenthal” came into the beeing of that therefore found in winter blooming roses in the bushes while the building of the monastery.

Others said, that the name came into the beeing of the crest, that showes a rose in a white ground...
